Because we support holistic health, solar power and other forms of alternative energy make a great deal of sense to us. We know that solar power is renewable, doesn't create greenhouse gasses, and doesn't rely on foreign energy sources. In terms of holistic health, the first two points are most important. In terms of today's political realities, the latter point is important as well.

The problem with solar power in the past has been cost. When we looked into it as an option for our home, we found that it would take 40 years or more before our electricity savings overcame the initial investment and the interest paid on it. Now, however, there is a solution that involves:

Although the Biophysics Center is not directly involved in solar power, Steve is promoting this new solar power solution individually. And there are two primary options for getting into this solution:

First, become an Associate, which allows you to promote the solution. In this way, you can become your own Customer and actually earn money from your own rental fees. You can easily promote the system to others since, in the end, all it really does is save them money and protect the environment. This option involves studying for a couple of hours and taking a test.

Become a Solar Power Associate

Second, you can simply sign up as a Customer. This basically allows you to lock in today's electricity rates as your on-going solar rental equipment fee. So as electricity costs go up in the future, you don't have to worry. Even as a Customer, you can refer other Customers and earn 5% off their rental fees -- so that if you referred enough other Customers, you could get your electricity for free.

Become a Solar Power Customer

Finally, there are two things to know:

1) This company will not actually start installing systems until 2008. Signing up now legally commits you to nothing (though they ask that you do plan on having it installed), but you will also not get a system right away. You are actually not legally committed to anything until they're ready to install AND they visit your home and design your system. YOU then decide if you want to go ahead with it.

2) If you do agree to their design and have a system installed, there is a deposit fee (to protect the rented equipment) of somewhere between $500 and $1000, depending on the size of the system. This money is returned to you WITH INTEREST at the end of your contract (so long as the system is intact and you didn't break your contract), much the way you get your deposit back when leaving an apartment or finishing a car lease (though you don't get interest with those).
