Although we believe that ionic footbaths are a useful way to help eliminate toxins from the body and stimulate the immune system, the benefits are really best seen when used on a regular basis. To assist our clients with their healing processes, we offer therapeutic footbaths (also known as ionic footbaths) to draw heavy metals from the body and help stimulate the lymphatic system. This helps the body to detoxify and more quickly return to an optimal state of health.
Unlike many holistic facilities, we do not claim that specific color changes in a footbath correspond to the detoxification of specific organs in the body. Although such correlations may eventually be made, we have not seen any scientific evidence to support such claims. Color changes are likely to be caused by content of the water; elements of the array (used in the footbath); as well as the small amount of fluids and minerals released from the feet.
There HAVE been studies, however, of the chemical content of the water before and after footbaths have run. These studies have included running baths with and without feet in them. Although color change takes place in the water regardless of whether someone has feet in a bath, it is possible to measure an increase in the presence of certain minerals (including heavy metals) in the water only after feet have been in the water.
Few ionic footbath companies, however, have done any research into this. This is why we prefer working with footbaths from EBR Wellness Products. They ran a clinical trial testing the water only; then the water after a bath ran (no feet); then the water after a footbath (with feet). They tested 8 people and had a third-party lab analyze the water. Results: many people had results similar to the bath running without their feet, suggesting minimal detoxing. But two people consistently showed high levels of minerals and toxic metals in their baths.
What is pulled directly from the feet, however, is only a small part of the story. The EBR ionic footbath is designed to stimulate the lymphatic system, which means it helps to boost immunity and increase the rate of natural toxin flushes from the body. It is expected that -- if someone has toxins to flush -- more will be eliminated in this way than directly into the bath.
Muscle Strength Study
EBR has run a muscle strength study that we think valuable to share. The bottom line result was a marked increase in muscle strength after a footbath. Some people also see increased range of motion in their limbs following a footbath.
