Why are more and more people today looking to holistic health on their path to wellness? Why might it be a good idea for you?

People look to quality health care because, after survival itself, good health is one of the most important aspects of life. And while Western medicine has advanced us a great deal in certain respects, it has fallen short in others. So we've come to realize that we need something not to replace Western medicine, but certainly to complement it.

For instance, Western medicine has helped in terms of dealing with emergency situations, providing medical diagnosis based on chemistry, eliminating a handful of life-threatening diseases, and extending our lives. But it has also dis-empowered the individual, creating a sense that there is no need for prevention and that chemical drugs can provide solutions for nearly any ill. As a result, we've become largely dependent on these drugs and health care costs have sky-rocketed partly because of this.

Holistic health, however, believes that health involves more than forcing the body's chemistry to do as it's told, regardless of why its chemistry is doing something. It believes that the food we eat, the things we say, the relationships we enjoy and/or struggle with, the thoughts we harbor, the environment we live in, and of course our genetics ... in short, that everything about someone's life affects her overall health.

When someone's health suffers, then, it's important to take all of these factors into consideration when trying to improve her health. Yes, there are times when surgery or chemical drugs are necessary to deal with an emergency. But there are other times when someone can make a simple change in diet to correct a health situation; or when changing some aspect of lifestyle can make the difference; or when a non-addictive (non-chemical) remedy can root out the cause behind a chemical malfunction and thereby really heal rather than merely covering up symptoms.

As more and more people learn about the financial connections the FDA has with the pharmaceutical companies they are supposed to oversee; when they understand how much money the pharmaceutical industry pours into influencing both legislation and doctors; when they watch as more than 100,000 people per year in the United States alone are killed by pharmaceutical drugs; when they see how many more suffer side-effects; when they grasp how much money is draining from average American pockets for this national addiction to drugs; and when it dawns on them that they don't WANT to be dependent, that they WANT to find real solutions ... then they turn to holistic health as a complement to the short-term medical solution.

We believe that holistic health is going to be the means of taking our extended lives and making them more enjoyable and more fruitful. And of course as more people turn to holistic health as a new, empowering option for wellness, more companies and health practitioners will invest themselves in this growing field, and we will continue to find newer and more powerful holistic methods of healing.
