Prebiotic Skin Care
By now, most of us know that friendly bacteria play a major role in the digestive process. They are in fact like an additional organ in the body, and without them we couldn't survive. When we use antibiotics, we don't kill just bad bacteria; we kill all types.
This is why it's important to replenish the gut with friendly bacteria after taking antibiotics by eating "probiotics" -- these are actually friendly strains of bacteria. The other option is to consume "prebiotics" -- these are food sources for all your friendly bacteria. When you get these into the gut, the good guys (by feeding and multiplying) can overwhelm the bad guys and really give you much more robust digestive (and immune) health.
What you may not realize is that your skin is a similar system. With more than 1000 strains of bacteria, it needs this same kind of support to stay healthy. Remember that the skin is about much more than making you pretty. Its health is vital to protecting you from toxins and microbes; it regulates body temperature; and it helps eliminate toxins.
I was introduced to prebiotic skin care years ago through a product that no longer exists, but finally found another with equally good ingredients and results: Aleavia.
I can't say what skin conditions will respond well, as this depends on the individual and the cause of the problem. But this product will generally support better skin health. I personally find you can put a little of the body wash on a problem area and leave it on to promote better skin health in that area.
